The tuition fee for a specific programme or course can be found on the programme and course web pages.
Please note that there are no application or tuition fees for:
Students who are citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are generally required to pay application and tuition fees. There are some exceptions to this general rule. For the full list of tuition fee exemptions, please see official information from University Admissions in Sweden. Visit www.universityadmissions.se for all the general criteria for tuition fees and exemptions.
Rules regarding residence permits, citizen status, and connections with a family member who is a citizen of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland can be found on the Swedish Migration Agency website.
Due to the requirements of the Swedish Migration Agency, students who pay tuition fees (generally all non-EU/EEA students) need to pay their first tuition fee instalment – for the first semester of studies – before they arrive at Lund University.
Once you are admitted to Lund University we will issue an invoice for the first tuition fee instalment with the following deadlines:
Studies starting in autumn (August/September):
Studies starting in spring (January):
If the payment is not received by the deadline, you will lose your place on the programme or course to which you have been conditionally admitted. If you need to apply for a payment extension, contact the Tuition Fee Office at tuitionfees [at] eken [dot] lu [dot] se (tuitionfees[at]eken[dot]lu[dot]se) well in advance of the deadline.
Tuition fee invoices are made available through the Student Portal. Newly admitted students are given information on how to activate their student accounts and then access the Lund University Student Portal shortly after the Notification of Selection Results are announced (i.e. in late March/early April for autumn studies, and mid-October for spring studies). You will be able to view and pay your tuition invoice on the Lund University Student Portal.
If you have not received an invoice a couple of weeks after you have been admitted, you should contact the Tuition Fee Office at Lund University.
If you are granted a scholarship, the amount awarded will be deducted from your invoice accordingly, e.g. if you are awarded a 50% scholarship, your invoice will only include half of the tuition fee due for that semester.
(Note that in the event of a refund, the reimbursement is always made to the same account the payment was originally made from. Consequently, make sure to choose a payment method that works if a refund must be made at a later stage.)
Once the tuition fee for the first semester of study is registered, Lund University will directly notify the Swedish Migration Agency that payment has been received and you can start your residence permit application. We encourage you to submit your residence permit application documents as soon as possible once you have paid your tuition fee instalment so that your residence permit can be processed in good time before the start of the first semester of your studies.
For each following semester of study, a tuition fee invoice is generated in advance of that semester and sent to you via the Student Portal where you can make your payment. Payment is due before the start of the semester.
If you are a non-EU/EEA student who is admitted to a degree programme at Lund University and would like to study extra courses in addition to the ones required to complete the total number of ECTS credits of your programme, you will generally need to pay extra fees for these additional courses.
If you have a scholarship from Lund University or the Swedish Institute, this is only valid for the programme that you originally received the scholarship for and if you take additional courses outside of this programme, you will generally need to pay the full tuition fees for these courses.
